Risk vs. Danger: Traveling to 'Difficult' Destinations
For many travelers, “risky” and “dangerous” get used interchangeably — but do they really mean the same thing? In this networking session, we’ll dig into that distinction: what’s genuinely dangerous, what’s merely perceived as risky, and how do experienced travelers learn to tell the difference before, and during, a trip?
Drawing on decades of travel to all 193 countries, including plenty of destinations others assumed were off-limits or too daunting to visit, we’ll talk through how you actually assess a place, beyond headlines and government advisories. Does that assessment change with experience? How much of “danger” is real, and how much is fear talking? Where’s the line between a healthy respect for risk and letting fear make the decision for you?
Bring your own stories — the destinations that scared you, the ones that surprised you, and the lessons you’d pass on to someone considering a place everyone told them not to go.
